Growth habits of ginger

May 03, 2021

Temperature

Ginger is originally produced in tropical regions of Southeast Asia. It likes warm and humid climates. It has weak cold and drought resistance. The plant can only grow in a frost-free period. The optimum temperature for growth is 25-28℃. If the temperature is lower than 20℃, it will germinate slowly. It will wither, and the rhizome will completely lose the ability to germinate when exposed to frost.

Illumination

Jiang is resistant to shade and is not resistant to strong sunlight, and does not have strict requirements on the length of sunlight. Therefore, you should build shade sheds or use crops to provide proper shade during cultivation to avoid strong sunlight.

Moisture

The root system of ginger is underdeveloped, and its ability to tolerate drought and waterlogging is poor, so it is very particular about water requirements. During the growth period, the soil is too dry or too humid to the growth and expansion of the ginger block, and it is easy to cause disease and rot.

Soil

Ginger likes fertile loose loam or sandy loam. It does not grow well when planted in sticky and humid low-lying land, and does not grow well on barren soil with poor water retention. Ginger needs the most potash fertilizer, followed by nitrogen fertilizer, and phosphate fertilizer is the least.
